IPng(IPv6)

IPv4 was designed host to host commutation between the systems in the internet.  Today fast growing internet it was unsuitable. As result we are having IPv6 (Internet Protocol, version 6) some time it is called IP next generation. (IPng)

IPv4 Issues:

  • IPv4 has two level of address structure called netid and hostid. It was categorized into five
classes like A, B, C, D and E. Very soon there will be any address left to assign for new system.
  • IPv4 Designed long time back. To-day environment more and more real time audio and video transmission happening in the internet. So IPv4 was not capable of handing current demand.
  • Data security is very vital for today business environment. Encryption and authentication was not supported by IPv4.

To overcome the above issues, IPv6 was proposed and it is now a standard.

IPv6 (IPng) next generation:

  • Large address space: 128 bits long. compared with IPv4 32 bits.
  • Header format changes:  New IPV6 header format in which options are separated.
  • Encryption and authentication options in the IPV6 packet.
  • upported for resource allocation in a better way to support real time audio and video.
  • Allocation of extension allows any new protocol can be used.
